En el trimestre de febrero a abril del presente año, la tasa de desempleo disminuyó en 1,3 puntos porcentuales respecto al trimestre anterior.

Durante el trimestre móvil febrero-abril 2008, la tasa de desempleo en la Región del Maule fue de 5,6%, lo que equivale a una disminución de 1,3 puntos porcentuales respecto al trimestre inmediatamente anterior. A nivel comparativo, la región se encuentra en el décimo lugar a nivel nacional, con una tasa de desempleo 2,0% menor a la registrada en el país, que fue de 7,6%. La totalidad de las Provincias de la Región del Maule presentan tasas de desempleo inferiores a la media nacional.
La fuerza de trabajo, al igual que en trimestres anteriores, ha registrado un aumento progresivo, alcanzando para el período las 416.160 personas, lo que se traduce en un aumento de 5,9% respecto a igual trimestre del año anterior.
Los Ocupados, durante el período, alcanzaron las 392.800 personas, lo que equivale a la generación de 16.850 nuevos puestos de trabajo (4,4%), en comparación a febrero-abril 2008. Los sectores que concentraron la mayor participación de trabajadores fueron Agricultura; Comercio y Servicios Comunales, Sociales y Personales que en conjunto agruparon más del 72,4% de los ocupados del período. Los rubros que generaron la mayor cantidad de puestos de trabajo durante el período fueron: Comercio (14.110 nuevos puestos de trabajo); Agricultura (9.000 nuevos puestos de trabajo) y Servicios Sociales, Comunales y Personales (4.830 nuevos puestos de trabajo).
La situación por Género, indica que el desempleo masculino registró una tasa de 4,6% durante el período, cifra menor a la tasa nacional que fue de 6,4%, por su parte las mujeres registraron una tasa de desempleo de 7,7%, cifra inferir a la nacional que fue de 9,8% para el trimestre febrero-abril 2008. Por Provincia Talca presenta la tasa de desempleo más altas para ambos géneros con un 5,2% para hombres y 11,5 para mujeres.
A nivel Provincial Talca se sitúa con la tasa más alta del período con 7,2% (0,4 puntos porcentuales menor a la tasa nacional y 1,6 puntos porcentuales mayor a la tasa regional).
