Cuando faltaban 10 minutos para las 11 de la mañana y a los 72 años, murió en el Hospital Salvador el ex entrenador de la selección chilena Luis Santibáñez
En Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos y conectado a un ventilador mecánico, el "Gordo" no pudo superar una grave insuficiencia hepática, tras haber sido intervenido ayer para realizarle una biopsia al hígado
Santibáñez logró títulos con San Felipe y Unión Española y alcanzó su mayor figuración cuando clasificó a Chile al Mundial de España 1982.
Luis Alberto Santibáñez, nacido el 7 de febrero de 1936, tuvo su peak en el proceso para las Clasificatorias al Mundial de España 1982. Allí Chile clasificó invicto y Santibáñez acuñó una de sus tantas frases: "Nos vamos en el carro de los desconocidos y volveremos en el carro de la victoria".
