SAG identifica posible causa de contaminación por dioxina

El Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG), dependiente del Ministerio de Agricultura, identificó el elemento óxido de zinc, proveniente de un sólo origen, presente en muestras de insumos y alimentos destinados a engorda de porcino, como causante de la contaminación de la carne de cerdo con base a resultados confirmatorios llegados recientemente desde un laboratorio de referencia mundial ubicado en Canadá.
Este resultado se obtuvo gracias a un proceso de exhaustiva investigación iniciado desde el mismo momento en que se descubrió la presencia de dioxina en carnes de cerdo, en niveles superiores a los permitidos en una exportación al mercado coreano.
Inmediatamente obtenido este resultado, el SAG adoptó medidas efectivas de control. En este sentido, la producción de alimentos para animales con presencia de dioxinas fueron retenidos por el SAG y adoptadas las medidas pertinentes. Sin perjuicio de ello se continúa con la investigación a objeto de identificar plenamente todos los posibles destinos del producto contaminado.
Asimismo, el SAG ha informado de manera permanente a las autoridades de Salud de los resultados que han ido llegando de las muestras enviadas a Canadá; se han establecido las coordinaciones y se han tomado las medidas correspondientes entre ambas instituciones.
